Sevilla striker Arouna Kone is a target for Wigan Athletic.
The Ivory Coast international is desperate to quit Sevilla after failing to make an impact this season. Kone fears missing out on Ivory Coast’s World Cup squad.
The Daily Mail says Latics boss Roberto Martinez is keen to take Kone on-loan.
Hopefully this one is true, he is quick and was quite prolific in the netherlands

It’s taken a while, but he’s doing OK here….
12 November 2012 at 2:02 pm #96504AnonymousHave people not realised we stand to lose Kone to the African Nations cup in January/February? I am almost sure he will go with Ivory Coast.
Just thought I’d mention it, as I reckon we will be knackered without him, unless we spend some money on a replacement, as Di Shito isn’t good enough, and Boselli is even worse than that.
I’d test the water with a bid for Charlie Austin from Burnley. His contract is running out, so might be able to do a deal. He’s already scored 21 goals.

Kone /ANC
Yes, most have realised; subject previously covered (CL)
For your information, likely to miss Stoke, Soton, Sun’land and Chelski.
Di Santo
I think you’ll find if you look at his goal-scoring record over the last 20 games (plus assists)…not too bad. A much improved player (even if he heard a poor game, Saturday).
Charlie Austin
Arsenal reported to be looking at him

Yes, in the Championship. Remember Marlon King, Jason Scotland, & Jason Koumas!

Rickie Lambert seems to be doing ok considering ! Moses made a decent transition as well in my opinion !

Moses got (was getting) there in the end …. incl. consistency
If it’s immediate impact we’re after (e.g. Kone, 4 in 11 (5, if credited with Swansea disallowed) plus min. 2 assists (Di Santo), is Charlie Austin the answer … ???
Bosselli, unfortunately, isn’t either
TTF we got Kone (for now that is …) !
12 November 2012 at 6:14 pm #96523Rickie Lambert seems to be doing ok considering ! Moses made a decent transition as well in my opinion !Rickie Lambert isn’t exactly setting the world alight with his four goals is he?! And, Moses took forever and a day to get his first goal and after that wasn’t exactly prolific.
Marlon King and Jason Scotland couldn’t stop scoring goals before we signed them.

I did say considering ! ( Southampton not exactly brilliant so far ! )
Quick hypothetical question. Would you condone the signing of Lambert if he was available in January and price wise totally do-able for the club ?13 November 2012 at 2:16 am #96533I could be wrong but Ricky Lambert would have been used to playing in that Southampton side for the last two or three years ,with the same players around him playing in a system that he is used to For the likes of Scotland/king they were put into a team in unfirmilier surroundings the same could be said if we pursue Austin although I assume it is just a rumour at the minute to go from a mid table championship club to a lower league premiership club is a big step up and a change of scenery as not always proved productive I give you jermaine Beckford for example
13 November 2012 at 2:28 am #96535As a club we don’t really have much of a choice do we ! I cant see us poaching any half decent strikers from the Prem and don’t say we did with Di santo because he hasn’t exactly set the World alight with his 4 goals either ! We can only look to the lower leagues or abroad for bargains and just hope they turn out ok ! They only fcuk off anyway if they turn out to be decent and so the cycle continues ! Is it lack of money or lack of ambition ? I don’t really know but I do know that the old school are quite happy to accept the situation whilst the newer fans ( The majority ) have different ideas now that football has moved on into the 21st century !

Why would a lack of ambition stop you buying a decent player?!
The old school accept because there’s not much more you can do.
And in answer, no I personally wouldn’t buy Lambert. I don’t think his style of play suits our game.
