On the 24th March 1961, Burnley were fined £1,000 for fielding ten reserves in a League match against Chelsea a week before their F.A. Cup semi-final. Ironically they drew 4-4 in the League but lost 3-1 to Spurs in the Cup. This was a record fine for this offence at the time but in 1966 Everton were fined £2,000 for the same thing and fines have grown ever since.
