On this day in 1929 Wigan Borough beat Chesterfield 5-1 in a Division Three North game at Springfield Park.

In 1985 Latics outplayed a very decent Derby County, running out 2-0 winners at Springfield Park, with Aspinall and Walsh on the score sheet.
