St George’s Day 1985 saw Latics play their 51st game of the season after reaching the second round of the Milk Cup as well as taking Chelsea to a replay in the third round of the FA Cup. We ended up drawing the game 2-2 against Bristol City at Springfield Park, where 2,423 spectators saw Gary Bennett and Steve Walsh score the goals. This was in a season that would eventually, after 61 games, see us win the Freight Rover Trophy against Brentford at Wembley.
