Latics beat Wimbledon (not MK Dons, not the same team) on this day in 1981, Colin Methven scored the only goal of the game at Springfield Park in front of 3,381 fans. Wimbledon managed promotion this year whilst Latics lay comfortably mid table in Division 4.
In 1987 we hammered Mansfield Town 3-0 at Springfield Park, David Lowe, Bobby Campbell and Paul Jewell scoring. We went on to finish 4th in Division 3 that year, qualifying for the play offs and being knocked out after losing 3-2 against Swindon Town at Springfield Park and drawing 0-0 in the away leg.
