In 1989 we made the long trek down to Bristol in what were becoming must win games as we crept ever closer to that relegation zone. Bristol City made life very hard for us as scrapped away and the 1-0 win we got this day proved to be one of the deciding factors in us staying up by two points, Alan Tankard scored the vital goal.
In 1999 Latics travelled down to Northampton after two tremendous home wins that got us right in the mix for an unlikely play off place. The cobblers on the other hand were fighting for survival, something this 3-3 draw didn’t help as they ultimately were relegated this season. Latics goal scorers were Simon Haworth, Stuart Barlow (from the penalty spot) and Pat McGibbon.
