In 1983 Latics visited Leeds Road knowing that they desperately needed a result to stay in the League.
Not actually true, Richard. We were in the old Third Division – not on the brink of going out of the league.
We managed a 1-1 draw courtesy of an own goal, which confirmed Huddersfield Town’s promotion, but it left us in a precarious position hovering above the drop zone, the crowd was 11,093.

As you can see, going into the last game we were three points ahead of Leyton Orient with a far superior goal difference – and another 3 teams between us and relegation spots.
Not so precarious ;) [/quote]
I did mean the third division, not the Football League, highlighted by Huddersfield being promoted – I knew which league we were in – I should know not to presume that everybody else would know what league we were in, I’ll try not to do that again.
