A few weeks ago DW was talking about handing over the running of the club to his Grandson David. Since then there have been all sorts of rumors eminating from Malaysia about a buyout. I noticed on the perimiter advertising on Saturday a Malaysian Property Development Company were advertising, anyone heard any more about this ?

There are Thai and Vietnamese ads regularly.
Don’t know why the advertisers aren’t targetting the Asian viewers of rugby league though ;)

Oops, solly.18 October 2018 at 2:44 am #172500Early murmuring, didnt turn out a million miles away. Young David did take over too and the Asion link not far off either.
Almost there now.
How will Dave leave? In a spcial match? Quietly or will the fans get to given one last chant of Whelan, Whelan, Whelan before he leaves the stadium via helicopter.
He has to do one more lap of honour.18 October 2018 at 11:54 am #172501On a stretcher to remind everyone he broke his leg.
18 October 2018 at 12:11 pm #172502I didn’t know he broke his leg, when was that
18 October 2018 at 3:36 pm #172503What that man has achieved at such a small and unfashionable club a club dwarfed by four of the biggest clubs in Britain as its neighbours is nothing short of unbelievable. No accolades can reward Mr Whelan fittingly. When I was a kid the F A Cup was a piece of plastic stuck on a rosette. I still get goosebumps and find it impossible to believe that this remarkable club has its name proudly engraved on it. Uncle Dave saved us from extinction and made us the Biggest Little club in the world. Very soon the most important man in the history of Wigan Athletic will bid us a fond farewell. How the hell are we supposed to give him the send off he deserves.

Under Dave it’s been Three quarter finals, two semi finals and a final where our name became embedded in cup history forever after we won it.
We can never thank him enough.19 October 2018 at 5:29 pm #172510I remember those rosettes. Always around for 4th qualifying round and 1st round proper days. Fantastic.

We can never thank him enough.Fully agree Donny. It will be a sad day when the Whelan family finally hand over control of the club. As a little kid pretty much dragged to my first game kicking and screaming I instantly fell in love once the game started and it has become as big a part of my life as anything else.
It was just before Whelan took over that I started going and since then I have seen things that I could only dream about in the first few seasons.
Winning the Auto Windscreens at Wembley was huge in 99 and one of my favourite ever days and then losing the playoff final the year later hurt like hell and will stick with me for all the opposite reasons. Fast forward 14 years and I had those same feelings watching us win the most famous cup competition in the world and then losing so agonisingly a year later in the semi final when we were so so close to defending it. Not to mention last seasons cup run as well.
It’s not just the FA Cup runs though is it? 5 promotions, 4 league titles, the Premier League, the League Cup final and 6 amazing games in Europe.
I wouldn’t swap what I have seen this club achieve for any other and as you say, we owe it all to Dave Whelan.

Well said Adam, DW has truly made his mark on Wigan Athletic and helped create some fabulous memories for us all.
When he finally does hang up his plaster cast and his family are no longer involved it will be a sad day. Hopefully David Sharpe will get a roll with the new owners and the club will find a fitting way to honour Dave Whelan for all he as done for our great club. -
