I’m just having a debate on an American based message board about “the great” shirt number in “soccer”.

They contend that number 10 shirt is the one “given to the great playmakers”. I of course am saying that the number everyone wanted at school was the centre forward shirt, the number 9.

Am I right or am I living in my own little world?

(And we don’t need any references to Latics’ current number 9 or 10 – it’s the general principle we’re talking about)

Personal choice, but for me it had to be number 7.

      Keegan, Dalglish, Robson, Cantona, Beckham

Personal choice as well for me number 11 purely coz I normally wore it.Would the number 10 shirt be iconic because of Pele?

Quote from a contributor: “10 has historically been the number associated with greatness, the number worn by star players: Pele, Maradona, Platini, Matthaus, Baggio, Bergkamp, Zidane, Ronaldinho, and the greatest player right now in Messi”

No.69 should be given to all those players who go down too easily ! Usually in the box !!!
