This all seems a bit timely Mr Ferguson (and sidekicks) doesn’t it? The morning before our big game and the first report on it as far as I can see is on goal.com not one of the main papers mmmmmmmm. Even raked up the Swansea spat from weeks ago.

      http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2012/04/11/3028217/roberto-martinez-to-leave-wigan-in-the-summer

The Spaniard and the club have mutually agreed not to negotiate a new contract when his deal expires at the end of the season and he will move on in the summer, regardless of whether the Latics stay in the Premier League.

Martinez, 38, left Swansea to take the Wigan job in 2009 and is widely considered as one of the most promising managers in the country after steering the club to safety in the last two years.

Wigan stayed up on the final day of last season and currently face another relegation battle as they sit second from bottom in the Premier League table with six games to play ahead of Wednesday night’s home match against leaders Manchester United.

Wigan owner Dave Whelan is believed to feel the time is ready for a change at the DW Stadium while Martinez himself wants a new challenge, although he has no job lined up.

He is understood to regret turning down the opportunity to take over at Aston Villa last summer after he had been given permission to hold talks with the Midlands club.

At that time, Martinez said he felt a loyalty to Wigan, where he spent six years as a player, but he is now eyeing up potential summer vacancies as he looks for a new project.

Martinez and Whelan have constantly spoken of their strong relationship but cracks have appeared in recent months, not least when the owner openly questioned his manager on a national radio station following last month’s defeat to Swansea.

“That was our worst performance in four or five years,” Whelan said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I will have a meeting with him on Monday morning and ask him some questions about the performance and his selection. We had three quality players on the bench and I want to know why.”

Yet more lazy journalism. He signed a three year contract last year!

          Don’t Respond To This
It’s obvious someone is trying to spoil what we are doing. We have teams, the media, referees and pundits on the run trying to find some way of putting a spanner in the works.
We have just had meetings with Roberto and I would bet my life that this is all pure nonsense.
Goal.com ha ha ha ha ha ha, I almost pity them. B)

Dont let the facts get in the way of a good story….

Shame the story is rubbish too.

Probably a disgruntled darksider who is begrudged because Roberto’s team is finally coming good…

As much as I think the story is bull, I seem to be under the impression that whilst Whelan talked of rewarding Bobby with a new & improved contract when he turned Villa down, it came to light a few months ago that this had either never happened or that Bobby hadn’t signed it

With all due respect, Robert’s team “finally came good” this time last season too & was back to square one come August!!!! ;)

I think the performances recently have been of the highest level since Roberto took over at the club and way above that of last season providing a solid foundation that can be built upon.

Last season alot of the credit has to go to the way N’Zogbia played individually…

We are currently by no means as one dimensional and reliant on a fairly unreliable player to win games.

Roberto & the players deserve as much credit for the recent up turn in form as they deserved any stick that came their way prior to February.

I’d disagree that it can be said they are finally coming good though until it continues over into next season (whatever division they are in). IMO last season’s similar up turn was to do with far more than N’Zogbia. You had a back 4 that became far more robust & in midfield Ben Watson was outstanding at times. Diame’s form returned & Bobby tried out different formations (all with 1 up front of course!!! ;) )

            Fair point.

I wont be as pedantic to point out that I said they are finally “coming good” rather than “come good”.
(even though I pretty much just did)

Still plent of work to be done of course but IMO we are playing the best football under Roberto at the moment.

And this is deffo the most tactically aware team I have seen in my time supporting the latics ;)
