All this talk about Moses potentially moving and Diame signing for Wet Spam got me wondering exactly how many of our ex-players truly moved on to bigger clubs and more success vs. just moving for the cash but not really making any progress.
If recent memory serves me right, very few have gone for the the right reasons or made the right choices. Here’s my starters for ten:Got it right:
Valencia
Palacios
Baines
‘ArryGot it wrong (some much much worse than others)
Ellington
Chimbonda
N’Zogbia
Scharner
Cattermole
Taylor
Bullard
Roberts
De Vos20 June 2012 at 10:40 pm #89449If I had to pick the player who flourished the most after leaving the Latics and had a long and highly successful career surely it would have to be Mickey Quinn wouldnt it?.Quinny scored for fun wherever he went whatever league he was in.Joey Hinnigan left to go to Sunderland and was also a success ala Peter Atherton at Coventry.
20 June 2012 at 11:30 pm #89450If your throwing Cattermole in there you might as well include Bramble un aw.
PS Palacios is now a bench player with Stoke, bigger and better things? Don’t think so.
What was that wingers name who went to Coventry and was never seen again…
From Matlock to ManU

By all accounts he did well & then got hit by injuries as he had at Latics until that Donny Page season. somet to do with his groin & an operation on his stomach
When he was fit again Coventry had new managers & he never got picked again. He says he was told later that was because Latics were due a further payment if he made 2 more appearances & the managers were under orders not to pick him
He left to go to Shrewsbury & played in the last game of the season against Latics in 1994 when they were crowned champions of div 3 at Gay meadow. Came back to Latics on loan for a bit a season or so later if I remember rightly -
