I can’t help but noticing there’s been a lot of talk about former players recently, I’ve just finished a long night shift and thought I’d throw my opinions out there on a few players that seem to have been forgotten/peoples views seem a little misguided. So here we go, a few players from each category, no specific order:

      The good:

      1) Jason Koumas – paid too much for him, but I really liked him. Was a bit of a let down but I still liked the man!

      2) Jason De Vos – I don’t think I need to justify this choice!

      3) Andy Liddell – See above.

      4) David Lee – Just because he gave me his training top once when he was coaching the youth team. Proof that you can still be successful even with male pattern baldness (something you lot might be happy about!)

      5) Jimmy Bullard – Leapfrog, floodlight failure fiascos, pulling down players shorts and that face at Duncan Ferguson. Top lad, barrel of laughs and a pretty decent player too!

      The bad:

      1) Jason Jarrett – My least favourite Latics player ever I think. No clue how he was played so much. Woeful player. Never seemed to know where he was, always looked shocked to see a football at his feet!

      2) Tony Dinning – People may disagree, I thought he was poor.

      3) Nicky Eaden – A defender that couldn’t tackle, the words “chocolate” and “teapot” come to mind. Also a strong contender for the last section in this post!

      4) Geoff Horsfield – I applied for a tax rebate at the same time he left the dressing room to nip the Asda, I’m £300 quid richer and he still hasn’t got his shopping. Can’t knock his finishing though, just a slow bar steward!

      5) Jason Jarrett – Deserves 2 entries. Did I mention I hated him?

      6) Arjan De Zeeuw – Only joking, legend. Still remember an entirely orange JJB when he was leaving!

      7) Antonio Amaya – Still not entirely sure he was a footballer, think we found him on the street!

      The ugly:

      1) Jorg Smeets – Feet smaller than his jaw. That’s just not natural.

      2) Nicky Eaden – Decided he does deserve a mention here, a squirrel bred with a scrotum, Nicky Eaden was born.

      3) Scott Green – Awesome player, but a neck like that was just unnecessary.

      4) Bryan Griffiths – Could tell he was born in St Helens, let’s put it that way!

      5) Steve Bruce – Manager, but surely the man deserves a mention in here. Looks like he’s constantly trying to smell his own ear. Plus he’s a bit of a see you next Tuesday.

Well, that killed some time for me. Not necessarily the ones anyone would pick, just a few that have been lost in the history books or ones that were on my mind! Just a little bit of fun, feel free to do your own list, doubt anyone was as bored as me though!

(Just like to add that I’m not exactly an old fart so I only remember from the early 90s!)

Personally I thought Nicky Eaden was a decent right back.

I also really liked Bryan Griffiths. Good left winger who scored some great goals, and gave the Notlob fans the sticks. A legend for that, if nothing else.

Jason Jarrett? Ok, he wasn’t brilliant, but he did that surging run for Ellington’s goal against Reading.

We’ve had far worse than the ones you listed.

Griffiths wasn’t a bad player, just not a handsome man! Had to put in an ugly section, “the good and the bad” doesn’t have the same ring to it.

I really didn’t like Jarrett, don’t think he deserved so much game time. That was one of the only things he did of importance that I can remember.

I understand that, it wasn’t intended as a “worst and best of all time”. As I said, just personal opinion and a few that don’t seem to get mentioned and have been forgotten. Just thought I would throw a few players out there. Only in my 20s so no doubt many people will remember a lot more players than I can from back in the day.

Nicky Eaden was good down the wings, would have been interesting seeing him play a similar role to where Boycey is playing now. Would have been a good wing back. Never confident when a player was running at him though, luckily we were a pretty dominant side back then and had Jacko and De Vos to clear up if he did make a hash of it.

Jarrett wasnt that bad, never a prem player, but championship he had some decent games. Injuries got the better of him as I remember.

Think your on your own there mate, Never signed for another club after he left us and would think that he has give up by now.

He did start training with Sheffield Wednesday in April and they obviously have some cash backing them but I dont think anything came of it.

IMO he had talent but was a lazy fecker who thought he was alot better than he was.

The Good – The brief spell we had Ellington, Roberts, Liddell and McCulloch all in the starting line-up.

The Bad – Paul Dalglish. His only success was somehow getting 2 red cards in consecutive games.

The Ugly – Paul Jewell’s fashion sense.

Anyone remember that lump on Jason Jarretts head – cant remember who against, just remember him being helped off at the JJB with what was best described as a boiled egg stuck to his head. That was ugly.
