Still, it’s a very intelligent, well-rounded, articulate and grown up argument that you present. Well done.

Have to say I don’t believe a word of this Clattenberg Racism thing.
You would have to be a very thick, docile, and naive person as a Premiership football referee to even mutter the most innocently intended comments that could be taken as racist.
I mean, we are in the midst of a massive outcry over racism, with the Serbia thing with the U21’s, the Terry-Ferdinand case, and even the Suarez-Evra case in the midst of the debate.
Only a referee with a desire to get sacked from his job would make such a foolish error. And I for one really don’t believe he did. Why the hell would he do such a thing? Especially in the current climate.
Ok, he’s made errors in games in the past. That hardly makes him a Klu Klux Klan member! And I happen to think he is one of our top refs, probably after Webb and Halsey.
I hate to think like this, but part of me thinks its a bitter response from Chelsea FC in the wake of Terry’s punishment by the FA. In other words, sour grapes. I hope Mark Clattenberg files a counter claim of slander and defermation of character against Chelsea FC.

Agree with all of that, Dave. But if he has said it, he will deserve all he gets.

Yes Griff, I agree.
But honestly, do you think he REALLY said something? It would be sheer madness, wouldn’t it? Apparently neither Mata or Torres heard the so-called ‘anti Spanish’ comment he is supposed to have made. For me, it all seems rather messy, with so many holes in the allegations.
I really don’t believe there is much racism actually IN football. I mean, among players, club officials, referees, etc. 20 or 30 years ago, perhaps. But as we know, our game is a melting pot of cultures, religions, and people from different parts of the world and walks of life. You only have to look at our squad to see that! Every Premiership club is the same. Whilst I DO believe there is still an element on the terraces, or rather in the stands, I don’t believe it is as big a problem WITHIN the game as some would like us to believe.
Even in the John Terry case, I think it was just a very messy, and very ugly affair all round. How the hell can John Terry actually BE a racist? He has been brought up in and around London, one of the most multicultural cities in the world where different colours and creeds are an every day thing. It’s not like round here, as in the fact that despite the area around Wigan being more multicultural in 2012, only a few years ago it was very different. I actually remember my nan rising out of her armchair in her Orrell bungalow and saying loudly “Bl-oo-dy hell!”, because she had seen a black man walking past. Was that racist? probably, yes. But only because that generation didn’t know anything else. I recall it being a fairly big deal when we signed Don Page in about 1989, as we hadn’t really had that many coloured players at that point. (Steve Johnson springs to mind in mid 80’s) Was it racism or was it ignorance? I think it was probably both. But mainly just down to the fact that at the time, there wasn’t much multicultural ethnicity about Wigan as a whole and probably the only black men in town were representing that lot across town…..
But for John Terry, he grew up in London, probably thought nothing of the black kids and family down the street….as he knew nothing else. He was a youth at West Ham, a club from a very ethnic part of London, Newham, and he probably had many black team-mates then, as he does now at Chelsea. I’m not sure what happened with Ferdinand, but the way I take it is he said something which was misheard and Anton Ferdinand has reacted b he THOUGHT Terry had said, and Terry has countered that by saying “No, I didn’t call you a ………..” (whatever was supposedly said) and by repeating what Ferdinand had suggested was said, he left himself wide open to accusations of racism charges! I think it’s bloody crazy if you ask me. And the way it was handled by the FA was nothing short of disgraceful. The way its panned out, Terry has basically been made out to BE a racist, and almost say that he IS racist….when anybody who looks at his background and situation can see that it’s a load of rubbish.
For me, John Terry has been let down greatly by the FA. He’s been used as an example and a scapegoat in order to show they are “Against racism”. Look at Chelsea’s team and the ethncity of it…..no way is that teams captain a racist. I don’t believe it for one minute.
3 November 2012 at 2:23 pm #96179Back to the subject of the thread however boorish it was put across, I agree that he should keep out of it. His media manipulation and mind games are becoming trite now ! He will more than likely call it a day after another season of winning nothing which I believe will be the case again.

Crawley player racially abused by Wigan fan
I had originally hoped it was the Post jumping on their own agenda bandwagon to link the Wafc with us, but unfortunately looking at other reports in less biased reports they are correct. The tweets do seem to originate in Wigan.
If you are a member of this site then can I just say you are not welcome at our club.

I think it’s time Twitter was closed down, myself.
It serves no real purpose at all, as far as I can see.
3 November 2012 at 4:26 pm #96187When I first read that the other day I couldn’t help thinking it could be an Oldham supporter.
I hope that the police are not that gullible to presume having “wafc” in a user name automatically means you support Wigan Athletic. :ohmy:Whoever it is, I hope they catch him or her.

Sorry, John, but it took me about 5 minutes to find his identity using Google. There is even a news site in Sussex (thisissussex.co.uk) that has named him.
He describes himself as “Shit gambler, shit boozer & a Wigan Athletic fan”. He unfortunately is one of ours, to our shame.

The thing is with Tw@tter, anybody can claim to be anything or anybody they WANT to be…..
…and that is what’s wrong with it.
I have a 15 y/o cousin who is always on it on her phone. She gets excited when some boyband member, pop star, or some tit from Only Way Is Essex or summat similar decides to ‘follow her’ on it.
In reality, its probably some 50 year old bloke, sat in a bedsit, pleasuring himself….
Researchers recently did some study into it and within the space of a couple of hours alone, they had uncovered several paedophiles.
Ban it!
