Just seen his interview on motd, he spoke sense & fair play to him, he never moaned about the players we have missing through injury

Replacements Lopez and Jones both did well. Particularly impressed tonight with Lopez – for someone of so few games, up against some of the best (Aguero, Balotelli). Not afraid to get stuck in, appears a little more mobile than one or the other alternative in the back 3.
Boyce looking more comfortable in defence. Stam has stepped up since the Bradford debacle, providing options now down the RHS …

Me and jpc01 have had a few disagreements regarding Ramis but I have to agree that the back three tonight performed well especially Lopez it is encouraging that the stand ins tonight performed well David Jones has put in two good performances and give Ronnie Stam a couple of more games and he will be up to Prem standard

I’d agree with all of this but would replace Jones with McArthur or Watson all day long. Jones plays too safe and doesn’t look forward enough for my liking. Both MaArthur and Watson have the ability to beat a man if need be. Jones doesn’t seem to have that. I think he’s a great squad player but not a first teamer in my opinion.Personally, and purely based on what I’ve seen from Saturday and last night, across the back I’d like to see – when fit – Ramis, Lopez and Caldwell as the back three(I know you don’t like Ramis, but I think he has solid over recent weeks).
29 November 2012 at 2:02 pm #97384So Johnny, who would have as right wing back ? For me Boyce has looked confident playing in the back 3 and Stam has injected some much needed pace to our right side and does put in a hell of a lot more crosses than Boyce ! Something will have to give when the back line are all fit again !

I like Boyce playing there because he’s much more defensive than Stam, but Stam is considerably better going forwards. Likewise on the left, Beausejour can put a good cross in – as he did on Saturday, but he wasn’t great last night and at times his first touch was worse than mine. Figueroa looked good going forwards at times last night. He has pace and can hit a ball, but he is prone to silly mistakes and being caught out of position.
Horses for courses maybe? Depends on who we’re playing?

Oh to be a football manager eh ! Beausejour was woeful last night IMO and I think the rest of the team cottoned onto that as well because nobody would pass to him for the last half hour !!
29 November 2012 at 2:48 pm #97395My big question is:
We are 2-0 down. Two minutes of injury time have been played out of three. And you decide to bring a sub on – but instead of doing it quickly you give him more instructions.
Just WHAT instructions was he giving him?
“Now listen, Callum. I want you to run onto the pitch. Listen carefully and in a minute you will hear the referee blow his whistle long. When that happens – come back to the tunnel.”

He sent him on to pick up the bits of tape that players had pulled off their socks ! :cheer:

Ordinarily, McArthur before Jones; but think Jones has done great job (better than expected) in last couple of games, so praise where merited.
Defensively, Figueroa had a mad moment last night (one similar to last season when he man-handled an opposition player (last man) on half-way line. Can’t recall the team. Stoke ?
His forte, left-footer, offers good combinations with Beausejour on LHS. But has to merit his place in defence.
Ramis is pretty much as was at the beginning of the season for me. Comfortable in possession, but sadly lacking in pace, easily got at by someone with a little pace and seemingly unsure as to his ability to challenge
e.g.
Roberts, Reading was the latest example Saturday last …. 2nd half, back to goal, Ramis marking, turned and left for dead, no attempted challenge. Now I know Roberts was quick, but now 34, hardly in his prime. Would have expected Rmais to offer a little more resistance.
Compare this to Lopez, Saturday even. Gave as good as he got from the ungainly Russian, Pavel P (Roberts sub), when he came on for the last 10. Refused to be pushed about.
On last night’s performance thought we fared much better with Lopez in the middle than Ramis.
Nothing personal against Ramis; West Ham, he looked a superstar – then again, they played to his strengths (Carroll, etc.)
Finally, Gomez ! His first 45 minutes last night was probably his best display as I can recall (forget the 45m Reading stint). Appeared much more confident. Was even last man (?!) in the box heading clear in one incident, and showed a willingness to get stuck in (typically, not his game). Booked (Barry). And of course, played his usual football. Better !

In my 33 years of watchign football that has to go down as the most bizarre substitution I have ever seen – If your team is a goal up or clingign on for a draw then I can see the point in order to kill some time but when you’re 2-0 down with under 30 seconds to go?? Very strange

JPC01 brough up a valid point on a previous thread.Perhaps he has an appearance bonus?
It could have been a move aimed at appeasing him by giving him a bit of extra cash in his next pay packet.
29 November 2012 at 3:29 pm #97419Maybe he has him in his Fantasy Football team and gets points for appearances
