Accrington Stanley v Latics 20th March 2021 CL Preview
Match Preview for visit to Accrington Stanley
Now the dust is starting to settle on life without administration, we can look towards playing football without the pressure hanging over the players and staff. We need to knuckle down and get those points that will get us clear of the drop zone and build for next season.
We travel to Accrington Stanley for the first time to play in the League, we have of course already met at the DW Stadium where a thrilling match where Latics came out 4-3 winners.
We travel to the Wham Stadium looking to extend a 3 match unbeaten run that has seen us crawl out of the relegation spots and although Accy are lying just 5 points from the play offs, they hare also on a pretty bad run which has seen just 3 points from the last 5 games.
I keep saying that this team can beat anybody in this league, not just on their day, beat any team period. It all depends on the mistakes, or to the point the lack of them. No mistakes gives us a great chance of winning, if any creep in then we are in for a hard day.
We have noticed that there has been an advert for a goalkeeping coach, ironically at the point where Jamie Jones is performing much better. The defence have a few games under their belt now too, and look to be forming a decent partnership.
Stats wise there is very little to show, just the one league game and a League Cup loss where we sent out the kids and didn’t cope well.
What matter is this game, we could well do with a win, we are good on our travels of late and os it isn’t beyond the reals of possibilities.
I think we will put the Wimbledon game behind us and get right at the Stanley, their confidence is more fragile than ours and we are scoring goals from all over the pitch, where they have just the one target man, who at the moment is misfiring.
The referee is James Oldham who has refereed us twice this season and not been great in either. Possibly cost us 2 points at Fleetwood, whereas it didn’t matter how bad he was when we played Hull a couple of weeks ago, we were worse.
A comfortable 2-0 win would be great though, lets hope Mr Oldham has improved and keeps that bloody yellow card in his pocket.
