Latics went into this game looking to put some fresh air between them and their hosts. But on a very cold night, a few nerves seemed to be present, and the occasion nearly slipped away from them.
We started off very brightly with Proctor going close and then a succession of corners. But the game started to ease into a spectacle where the two teams looked as though they were cancelling each other out.
AFC Wimbledon did manage to get a foothold in the game and Latics defence had to be sharp. Jamie Jones was again on good form and stopped anything the Dons threw at him.
We were getting caught repeatedly down the wing until Massey went off injured, things started to settle down again after this and so maybe he had been struggling and this was why we were conceding a lot of possession on the flank.
We went in goalless at half time but came out all guns blazing in the second half and after just a few minutes Proctor went close and should really have put the ball away.
He did though make up for the mis on 58 minutes after an Otabor cross come over his head on to the boot of Gardner who calmly slotted the ball to Proctor to fire home.
We did make hard work of it after this, conceding a lot of possession again and was punished with ten minutes to go as AFC Wimbledon headed home for 1-1.
It wasn’t the result we were looking for to round off an exhilaration 24 hours, but it keeps an unbeaten run of three intact for now.
We move on to Accrington on Saturday where we go again.
