Match Preview for our trip to AFC Wimbledon
As the old saying goes, what a difference a week makes and in our case ten days. After wins against MK Dons and Plymouth Argyle we have given ourselves a great shot at survival in this League.
As we all know, the new finally came yesterday that we have all been waiting for, and but for the rubber stamping of the EFL, Wigan Athletic have new owners, and they will be ecstatic at how the team are performing and grinding out results right now.
A win for Latics tonight would put daylight between us and out hosts, and I would love to give some insight as to the stats at Plough Lane, but it is the first time we have played there and so there is none.
Of course Wimbledon played at the old Plough Lane a few hundred yards away, and I remember being on the terraces a couple of years ago when AFC Wimbledon found out they were moving back to their ancestral home.
We played the original Wimbledon team plenty of times, including in our inaugural season in the football league, but our only win there came in 2003 our record against them at Plough Lane reads a dreadful 1 draw, 1 win 2 losses.
The only stats we have to go on really with AFC Wimbledon, was the 3-2 loss we suffered at home at the beginning of February, a game we should never have lost in the memory of man, but that was the place this team was in back then. Total of 1 win, 1 draw and 1 loss so far.
We are much more established team since even February 6th, and also have a double barrel of confidence having secured back to back wins and the great news of the takeover. Both of which should be a further pick me up for a team that is performing quite well of late with 3 wins in 5 games.
Wimbledon however have lost 2 and drawn 3 in the last 5 games, seeing them drop into the relegation zone and sit 2 points behind Latics with a game in hand.
The Referee is Paul Howard who didn’t break any pots in our home defeat to Oxford, lets hope he has had the relevant training to avoid another bad referee rant from us.
