There are three games to go and Wigan Athletic goes to a ground where they would very much like to come away with their non-losing record intact, a win could well take a lot of pressure off.

This could well be a huge weekend for Latics, who will want to bounce back from the disappointing draw with Everton at the weekend.

I know it is unlikely, but if Latics do produce the performance they are capable off, get a fair rub of the green with the ref and a bit of luck (three things that have deserted us this season), we could very well go to Villa Park and get a win.

Historically it has been a good ground for us and as Villa have now crossed that 40 point line they will feel safe now. There will be a few more twists and turns yet though and so we need to capitalise on the games we play in.

Martinez will be sweating a bit on the fitness of both N’Zogbia and Diame for this game; both have had solid games recently and so would be missed. The rest of the team have trained as usual this week and reports are that spirits are high.

Six years ago, almost to the day, we beat Reading 3-1 at the JJB to gain our promotion to the top flight, a similar result this weekend could go a long way to seeing we stay there for a seventh season. The Fat Lady isn’t singing yet guys, so for those are going…. make some noise and get behind the lads.

Looking forward to next week’s game against West Ham, please remember that the ‘Empty Seats’ will be playing before the game and that there is a members ‘do’ after the game with hot pot, past and present players, entertainment and prizes. Costs are (£2.50 per WASC Member, full details at www.wastc.co.uk).
