In a shock move, Latics announced the departure of Michael Brown to Portsmouth in a day that saw 4 players move to Fratten Park.

Latics announced that Michael Brown has made a permanent transfer to Portsmouth, joining Boateng, Dindane and Jamie O’Hara on loan from Spurs. Paul Hart has realised what a hard season he is going to have and bought Brown to get a bit of steel into the midfield.

The clubs official statement reads:

Wigan Athletic can confirm that midfielder Michael Brown has completed a move to Portsmouth for a nominal fee.

Brown made 64 appearances for Latics since joining in July 2007 from Fulham, starting 51 times. His last appearance was in the home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The 32-year-old makes the return to Pompey where he spent a loan spell back in 1999, appearing four times for the south-coast side, whilst under contract at Manchester City.

In his career he has made 329 league appearances for Manchester City, Hartlepool United, Portsmouth, Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and Wigan Athletic, making as further 44 appearances in cup competitions, giving him a total of 373 appearances.
