Wigan Athletic has conceded 14 goals without reply since we won 3-1 at the DW Stadium on the 26th September 2009 and a bit of revenge would be really sweat right now.
It doesn’t look good on paper when you see that we have let in fourteen goals in two games, but the 3-1 win showed us that no team is beyond reach and especially ones that will have an eye on the Champions League.
Latics deserved so much more than the draw they got against Tottenham at the weekend and but for yet another couple of decisions not going for us again, we probably would have. We created plenty of opportunities besides the blatant penalty that we weren’t given and that is the sort of play we need to carry into this game.
It is too late on to be cautious now, we aren’t expected to get anything from the Bridge, our goal difference is shot anyway and so we only have something to gain, nothing to lose. Sitting back and soaking pressure against the Blues is out of the question, get right up to them and get in their faces.
Stoke showed that they aren’t the invincible all conquering team the media would have you believe they are, hustle them and play at them and they will give you opportunities, the Potters didn’t take theirs and we have to get over our shyness in front of goal and make it count.
The price of this game will deter a lot of fans, it costs nearly £75 to go before you leave the house, and that is out of reach for a lot. So the ones that are going need to make themselves heard and get right behind the boys.
Roberto will have the full squad to choose from and will probably look to the Champions League loss to Manchester United to work out what team he may face. The Blues will still really fancy their chances to reach the Semi-final and may well rest a couple of players.
One player in particular is guaranteed a start as he looks to break his duck in Chelsea colours, Fernando Torres is having a real bad time at the moment, but unfortunately these sort of players always seem to have a good game against us.
