Wigan Athletic have sealed the deal with a Spanish winger, Albert Crusat has played at the top level in Spain and will add some much needed competition into our very small squad of players, the official statement reads:

Wigan Athletic are delighted to confirm that lightning quick Spanish winger Albert Crusat has signed from Almeria, for an undisclosed fee.

The 29 year old underwent a medical at the DW Stadium on Monday and has put pen to paper on a two year contract, with the option of a third.

Roberto Martinez is very happy to have made his capture and said: “Albert is someone we have been trailing for a long time and it is fantastic news that we have managed to get him.

“He will add something completely new to the squad, he has electric speed, really quick feet and has played over 150 games in la Liga. He is an explosive player, who understands how to affect games with his attributes, having earned his long experience in such a competitive, tactical and demanding league as La Liga.

“He is compact physically, but has great upper body strength, and I am confident he can adapt quickly to the demands of the Barclays Premier League.

“I think our fans will take to him because he is a really exciting player, who can bring a crowd to their feet.”

Crusat himself said: “It has been a crazy few days but I am really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the English league now that everything has been done.

“Roberto Martinez has shown great faith in me and I am determined to prove him right. I can’t wait to meet my new team mates and get started.”

Barcelona-born Crusat came through the ranks at Espanyol and made his debut for the side in the top division. He moved on Catalan side Lleida, also in la Liga, but it was at Almeria he has really sealed his reputation as a goal-scoring winger. He scored 11 times as the Andalucian side secured its first ever promotion to the Spanish top flight in 2007 and has been an instrumental part of their La Liga history ever since, notching 199 league games, scoring 33 times. He has been capped for Spain at Under 16, 17 and 18s level.
