FIFA have put a stop to Wigan Athletics Victor Moses making his debut against Ethiopia this weekend, stating that they need more documents from the Nigerian Football Federation.

Victor Moses will have to wait a little bit longer to make his debut for the country of his birth Nigeria as FIFA faff about a bit longer before they approve his application. A statement read:

"Fifa have replied to our letter yesterday, but there are still some procedures to follow before Victor Moses will be eligible to play for Nigeria," NFF acting secretary general Musa Amadu said.

"Fifa requested more documentation on the player; a letter from the English FA assenting that the player only played for them in the age grade cadre and not at senior level; and a letter from the player indicating he wants to switch nationality and now wants to play for Nigeria.

"The NFF have replied supplying all the necessary information; we are doing everything necessary including involving the foreign ministry on how to quickly resolve the matter.

"But for Sunday’s match against Ethiopia Victor Moses will not feature for the Super Eagles. We are doing everything possible to sort this out in a couple of days so that he will be eligible to play for Nigeria in subsequent matches."

Moses, 20, who was born in Kaduna, is with Nigeria in Abuja as they prepare to face Ethiopia.

Moses has lived in England since the age of 11, and has been capped by his adopted country at under-17, under-19 and under-21 levels.

As Moses has dual nationality and has not played for England’s senior side, he is eligible for Nigeria – once an application has been made to FIFA and approved.

The player was picked for last month’s friendly against Sierra Leone, but stayed away.

Nigeria coach Samson Siasia visited Moses in England in December and received assurances that he was keen to play for Nigeria.
