This is the first ever Cup meeting between Wigan Athletic and Crystal Palace as Latics travel down to Selhurst Park looking to bounce back after the weekend’s defeat.

Latics have never lost to their Carling Cup opponents Crystal Palace, but saying that we have only played two games with each other back in the 2003/2004 season.
The home game saw us run out 5-0 winners, Andy Liddel with a brace that saw him go past David Lowe’s club record goal tally.

The away game was a drab draw, but it was enough to see the Eagles get into the play offs, two points ahead (oh if only we had won, we could have been in the Premier League a year earlier) of us and promoted by beating the che,….. erm West Ham in the final.

Any way a lot of water has gone under the bridge since then and we see ourselves 9th in the Premier League whilst Palace are 8th in the championship and looking to make another appearance in the top flight next season.

Recent form has seen our hosts win one, lose one and draw one – much like ourselves. We are expecting a few of the new signings and youth to get a run out in this game, yet there are no signs as to how strong a team Palace will field.
