Wigan Athletic owner Dave Whelan is 80 years old today and he will be celebrating part of this special day with people that have a special place in his heart.
We all know the story about Mr Whelan breaking his leg in an FA Cup Final, opening a market stall, buying JJ Bradburns making millions and then taking over Wigan Athletic.
We know about him promising a brand new stadium, promotions and cups, with the ultimate aim of reaching the Premier League.
The difference being, he actually did it. Wining promotions from the lowest to the highest division in English football, spending 8 years there and then to top it off watch as Little Wigan Athletic beat the best team in the land to lift the FA Cup.
He also played a big hand in the survival of Wigan Warriors, even giving them a home for 99 years (only73 to go).
The grand unveiling will be around 2.00 p.m., but Supporters are being advised to arrive by 1.30pm. The likes of Emmerson Boyce, Roberto Martinez and other past players and managers will also be there.
We haven’t been told if the FA Cup is coming along, but there will be speeches and a live brass band performing before the actual unveiling by Mr Whelan himself takes place around 2.00pm.
Like him or loathe him, he has done so much for the town of Wigan and especially Wigan Athletic.
