It seems a very long time since Wigan Athletic had back to back wins and how good does it feel!!!! Not only giving ourselves a fantastic chance of progressing in the Europa League, but also narrowing that gap to the top of the Championship League.

The game last Thursday was awesome, Maribor is not a garbage team, but we certainly made them look that way. We could have gone in 5 or 6 up by the break, but as we don’t like making things easy we let them get back into the game only for us to pile the pressure on again to get the 3-1 result.

Blackburn was a game where we really needed a good performance and more importantly a win. We started off badly but started to stamp our mark after going a goal down and things were helped by the Rovers Captain have a go at knocking Powell out.

Down to ten men our neighbours still held out for quite a while but we got what we deserved in the end and jumped about eight places in the league with the 2-1 win.

Putting these two results in a football accumulator william hilll would probably have made a tidy profit, but how many will have had the courage to do so?

We have back to back games in Europa League against the favourites Ruben Kazan coming up, whilst Zulte Waregem will do the same against Maribor. I think if we are still second in the Group after these games, we will have an extremely good chance of progressing.

The Championship League is going to be a long hard slog, but as time goes on we will gel more, maybe bring in a bit of fire power, and start to climb the table. Playing Blackpool and Charlton away either side of our home game against Kazan will be challenging to say the least, but also playing QPR will really test this squad of players out.

October is going to be a very telling month and Wigan will be looking to have moved up two League Tables. Who would have foreseen that 25 years ago?
