Oh what we would give to see us get to another major Cup Final again, just to make amends for the disappointing way the last one ended. Wigan Athletic will have to get by Arsenal though if they are to do it, just like they had to in 2006.

It seems a million years ago that Wigan Athletic made it all the way to their first major Cup Final, they unfortunately didn’t put up a good show on the day, but that doesn’t take anything away from the emphatic way we got through the rounds.

The semi-final that year was against a buoyant Arsenal side that thought they were going to roll us over, but Paul Scharner put paid to that theory scoring the only goal of the first leg game. We went to Highbury just needing a draw to make it to the final.

Arsenal didn’t really read the script though and took it to extra time with after Thierry Henry scored to make the scores 1-1 at the end of normal time. Mike Pollitt had kept us well in the game with some fine saves and stopping a penalty.

Latics fans hearts were broken in extra time as Robin Van Percy curled a free kick in with just a few minutes left in extra time to all but cement their place in the final. That was until Jason Roberts popped up with a fantastic equaliser just a minute from time.

It was enough to send us through to Cardiff on away goals and every Wigan fan will want the same sort of commitment when we go down to the Emirates in a couple of weeks and maybe this time go one step further.

The game will be played on Tuesday the 30th November with a 19:45 kick off.
