After falling behind after 8 minutes, Mario Melchiot headed an equaliser just 3 minutes later from a Charles N’Zogbia corner. Man of the match Jason Koumas seemed like a brand new player, doing everything we know he is capable of.
Martinez seems to be getting a lot more out of players like Koumas and Bouaouzan; it was a shot from the latter that forced the Hanover keeper into a fantastic save to give us a corner. Ben Watson flung in a wicked ball that was cleared off the line for a second corner which led to the equalising goal.
After equalising from that corner Latics went on to play past the German outfit, but couldn’t find a way through. In the second half Koumas was on fire and also could have scored twice but for some great defending.
At the other end, Mike Pollitt yet again played out of his skin and saved Latics neck a couple of times. Koumas, de Ridder and Gomez all tested the Hanover keeper, but alas the game ended as a draw, leaving Bobby waiting for his long awaited first win.
Bobby said about the game: “The end product is still missing, but it’s early days, the players are still getting used to a change in approach.
“But we’re talking about real quality players here, it will come. We are not asking them to do anything they are not capable of, just to think a little differently. I am pleased with the fact that things are beginning to take shape, and that I see signs of progress.”
Martinez went on “Don’t think that the team will be taking a break whilst over here, even after a tough game like that, they’ll be in the gym at 8.am”
