Notts County will travel to the DW Stadium wondering how they couldn’t hold out to an under par Wigan Athletic 10 days ago, but I feel they will see a more determined performance this time round.
For an hour, Latics just didn’t seem to want to know at Meadow Lane, but two goals from Jason Scotland and Ben Watson ensured that we would get another chance to book our place in the fifth round. Hopefully this time we will show a bit more sense of urgency and with the additions to the squad, we may get a look at a new striker as well.
Unfortunately we won’t be seeing Victor Moses as he is cup tied, but a debut could be given to Bolivian striker Marcelo Moreno who was our second striker to sign in the January transfer window. Scotland will now have to start scoring to keep a place ahead of three other strikers and if he is chosen, maybe a great performance against County could be just the ticket.
Latics and County already know that an away tie at Craven Cottage awaits the winners of this game, and with the way the Cottagers season is going this is a winnable tie to get to the quarter finals. Wigan will almost certainly put out a much stronger squad and go for a similar sort of scoreline that we got 18 months ago when we played the Magpies at home.
Notts County are still in the mire off the pitch, this game could have been thrown had the administrators been called in last week, but they were given 28 days to come up with £330,000 for the tax man. On the pitch though they have won both their league games scoring 5 goals and conceding none, they have moved up three places in their league to firmly place themselves in the play off positions and within striking distance of the automatic spots.
The best place to watch this match is at the DW Stadium as it is unlikely to be on TV anywhere, so lets see you alll make the effort to get down there.
