Wigan Athletic have broken the winning hoodoo with a 4-3 victory over Rovers, but can we now go to Anfield and get back to back wins for the first time this season against a resurgent Liverpool?
It is going to be a nail biting close to the season and more so for Latics as we hit arguably out hardest run of games of the season. First up is a Liverpool side that is back to winning ways.
Travelling to Anfield is always a daunting affair, but with the results this season has thrown up and with the Reds still a bit fragile, Latics can go to Anfield with a little less fear. Our hosts have lost an amazing 11 matches this season already.
Latics performance at the weekend showed we are up for the fight, and a little more of that passion and being a bit more clinical in front of goal and we could see us build on the 3 draws and a win we have recorded in the last six games against our hosts.
Gerrard and Cole are expected to get over their injuries in time for the game, but Liverpool will be without record signing Andy Carroll and Skrtel. Latics will be relatively injury free, with Cleverley back in the fray and Caldwell asking to be considered.
A lot will depend on how we approach this game, I feel if we go there thinking we have to sit deep and look for the breaks, we will be asking for trouble. Go there and play like we did in the last couple of games and I think we will rattle a fragile Liverpool and get something.
Kevin Friend is the man that will take on this game, it will be his 12 Premier League game this term. He has taken control of us in the losses against Arsenal and Blackburn so far and so we hope he has a much better game this Saturday.
Kevin was the one that chalked off Charles N’Zogbia’s goal at Ewood Park for no reason and didn’t exactly endear himself against Arsenal either. He has dished out 26 yellows and two reds in his 11 games so far.
