Latics have signed two young Spanish prospects in the form of Roman Golobart and Abian Serrano from Espanyol and Las Palmas respectively….
Roberto Martinez says he is looking to the future with these two new signings, both Roman Golobart and Abian Serrano are just seventeen but they are both figuring very highly in the world of Spanish football.
Roman Golobart plays at centre back, whilst Abian Serrano can play up front or on the wing. Although both are young, they are considered good enough to be featuring in the Premier League very quickly.
“Both Roman and Abian are exciting talents,” said Martinez, “and it’s a great sign of the club’s outlook that we’re bringing in young professionals that will hopefully be the future of Wigan Athletic.
“Their performances of their respective clubs have been fantastic and I’m confident that with the right approach from us, and the right attitude from them, they will have a bright future in the game.”
The club statement went as follows: Wigan Athletic are delighted to confirm the signings of Roman Golobart and Abian Serrano from RCD Espanyol and UD Las Palmas respectively, subject to international clearance.
Both 17-year-olds have joined Latics as 1st year professionals; putting pen to paper on a one-year deal.
Serrano is a pacey attacking midfielder or striker who prefers playing just behind the front-line.
In Golobart Latics have a tall, commanding centre-half who would undoubtedly do well in a Kevin Pietersen look-a-like competition; such is his resemblance to the England cricketer.
Roberto Martinez is optimistic about the potential the two possess and is looking forward to nurturing their talents.
