Yeah, I second what Griff says. If you are from Wigan, it has to be Wigan.

I actually went to 3 or 4 games at Central Park. The first was back in 1987, when they played Manly in the World Club Final. Mainly due to the media build up of it, and me nagging my dad. (Rugby ‘JCL’ eh?)

Make no mistake, the place was absolutely packed to the rafters that night. 37,000 I think. I was with my dad, and we were right at the top on the corner. I remember that we had to park near the Cherry Gardens, and that I never saw a thing, not a point scored, due to six-footers being stood on crates in front of us!
A few years later, mid 90’s, and I went to a few games with a college mate, a few of us lot from Skem went, really to see what the attraction was. Perhaps it was because we were from Skem, but we couldn’t get into it. The best thing was you could have a pint where you stood. And with it being in centre of town, you could go out straight afterwards, which was handy, as there was a few lads and a few girls amongst us. I can recall we left well before the end, more than once. I just didn’t get it. Compared to Football, it just did not have the ‘fluid’ excitement, like the ball can be from one end to the other in a few seconds.

I suppose growing up in Wigan, it’s different, with being brought up with it in the background, and heavily played in schools. Never saw a rugby pitch in Skem, as a kid. Still don’t think there is.

Incidentally, Jimmy, my mate who I sit with, watches BOTH. has done for years.
