The great Union side got knocked out of the world cup this morning to a very poor French team.
The massive worldwide sport that has to make up numbers in their huge tournament by adding the likes of Namibia full of white players.
Rugby Union has been well established for decades in England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Argentina, Japan, Namibia, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa.
You then have the likes of Georgia, Romania, Russia, Zimbabwe, Ivory Coast, and Chile who can field team of players who have come through the ranks or who still play in those countries.
Like a world cup in any sport, you have good and bad teams.
You cannot compare it to Rugby League where the sport is played to a decent level in a small area of England, Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Samoa and southern France.
The Rugby League World Cup in the past has consisted of Irish, Welsh and Scottish teams made of lads from Yorkshire and the North West, and a Lebanese team where every player had an Aussie accent. Now, that is a case of making up numbers.
The Rugby League World Cup is basically a long drawn -out decider to see who plays Australia in the final.
And for the record, it’s Namibia’s white population of South African descent who play Rugby Union – hence why their international team is made up of white players. The black population of the country tend to play football.
