Fat bastards
3 March 2010 at 7:16 pm #25151Your obsession with Latics attendances has clearly not been thorough enough mutty as away fans rarely get more than 4500 tickets for the North Stand, indeed Liverpool have got under 4000

Obsessed much?4 March 2010 at 2:57 am #25197The disconnect with reality on the rugby side can be amusing.
Pre-season they never let a Latics match pass by without slating the attendance. A few games into the rugby season they make excuses for their below expected attendances, claim all will be fine once the ticket promotions kick in (something they criticise Latics heavily for), then go on about averaging 20k in a few years time!

What’s even more amusing is when yet another egg chaser comes on here and expects to be taken seriously after all the bullying, derision and ridicule thrown at Latics fans from 25yrs ago to present day, including tons of digs on their site at present and doesn’t expect Latics fans to reciprocate. People reciprocate on here because they get banned off Rlfans for attempteing to redress the many lies told about Wigan Athletic on there.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with comparing the respective club’s attendances because for decades Wigan Athletic fans have had the words ‘its a rugby town’ rammed down our throats, and are simply pointing out that this is yet another lie perpetuated by the media. Not a match passes by without derogatory comments about our results and crowds on RL fans,Wigan world or Wigantoday from rugby fans so why shouldn’t people on here give a little back
Are you happy with Wigan being incorrectly portrayed as a rugby town even though Wigan Athletic gets bigger crowds, plus there are also a few thousand match going Utd/City/Liverpool/Everton fans in the town?
This is a Wigan Athletic fans site and we simply want the truth to be told, would you prefer for lies to be told about Wigan Athletic?Latics fans hate the rugby because they tried to kill us
Rugby fans hate Latics because they exist

Never forgetAll very theatrical but it really doesn’t get us anywhere.
Personally I like to think of Wigan as a sporting town. We had top teams in both codes of rugby (until Whelan got at Orrell) and football and we are still one of only two towns to have top flight rugby league and football clubs.
Any rugby fan who doesn’t recognise that Latics are a major force in the town is an idiot. The same can be said for any Latics fans who say the rugby isn’t a key part of the town’s identity.4 March 2010 at 7:37 pm #25249Personally I like to think of Wigan as a sporting town. The same can be said for any Latics fans who say the rugby isn’t a key part of the town’s identity.Nothing wrong with that at all. I share your vision despite all the bad mouthing from the RL side. I am old enough to remember when many Wiganers watched both the Latics and the rugby and Liverpool/United as well in many cases. In the early 80s and when we got into the league Latics had the better crowds and a young Scholes used to potter past Central Park when there barely 3000 on. And then one Maurice Lindsay came along and on the wave of a load of challenge cup wins rather than embrace the little club across the town tried to finish the cheeky upstarts off and created the bad blood that has turned a generation against each other. It’s a shame that this cannot be reversed, the two clubs are more or less at parity now.
Despite the past, most Wigan Athletic fans only dislike the rugby fans because of the stuff they come out with about us now. You will not here any anti-rugby songs at Latics any more and rugby fans walk freely around the DW on Latics match days. You cannot say the same about the rugby; a friend of my son was verbally abused by some middle aged coward for wearing a Latics shirt under his jacket at the Hull KR game and of course they have their famous ( stolen from Man U ) Take me Home song, plus dozens of signatures and avatars on RL fans wishing relegation and extinction on their own town’s football team. Change the attitude of these people and you won’t have a problem, nor will you have anti-rugby threads on here.

What does footballs worldwide status have to do with the little old town of Wigan? If Wigan is a rugby town, as fans of the sport claim, why isn’t the DW stadium packed out week in, week out?
Latics fans acknowledge we don’t get great attendances by Premiership standards, then again the club has only had little over 30 years of league history, while for every Latics fan their are at least three fans of other clubs, possibly more.
By contrast the vast majority of rugby following Wiganer’s support their home town club, in addition a great many fans come from out of town, such as Bolton and Preston.
All I ask is you be consistent, don’t roll out the rugby town crap when it suits, then flipflop when attendances don’t reflect that.
