4th April 1885; Blackburn Rovers beat Queens Park (Glasgow) 2-0 in the F.A. Cup Final played at the Kennington Oval in front of a crowd of 12,500. Gate receipts were £442.
This was the second successive year that Rovers had beaten the Scottish side and was also the last time that an amateur side appeared in the Final. Blackburn were a professional side at the time although their status was not official but three months later paid players were legalised by the Football Association.
Both Scottish and Irish teams entered the entered the F.A. Cup in the early years but after Rangers reached the semi-final in 1887 the Scottish F.A. forbade their clubs to enter and similar action by the Irish F.A. quickly followed.
