      1st March 1902 – In the annual match for the Sheriff of London Shield, which was contested annually between the top professional and top amateur side, Totenham Hotspur beat Corinthians 5-2. At the time Spurs were members of the Southern League and holders of the F.A. Cup. Corinthians were also very strong and had beaten Aston Villa 1-0 to win the Shield in 1900. In 1904 they beat Bury 10-3 and the latter had won the F.A. Cup in 1903 by a record 6-0 margin when they defeated Derby County.

        Latics beat Aldershot 4-0 on this day in 1988, did Paul Jewell score 3 or all four of them????
