Allot of speculation going around regarding whos in and whos out. Its still not been confirmed but many reports saying Walcott has been dropped.
A good quote from the bbc website from a viewer was:
“Long may the farce continue. It’s been a welcome distraction from work. However – Adam Johnson has to go over SWP considering he took his place at club level, so has been playing consistently and performing, and Dawson has been the standout defender over King. Take both. They deserve it.”
Which i totally agree with, both been great this season.
Apparantly its Parker, Baines, Walcott, Johnson, Dawson, Bent, Carrick who miss out.

according to sky that waste of space carrick is in – i would think for huddlestone got to agree about dawson and johnson must go before swp or upson and i had quite a bit of time for cappello until he picked carragagh

Another manager in the fireing line from LMB
1 June 2010 at 7:14 pm #35312Seems to me that Capello probably had his 23 (no doubt based on the style he intends to try to play) in mind very early on and only used the 30 man squad and the last two friendlies to see if any of the fringe players would do anything radical to change his mind. It would seem that the only one who did that was Baines, by admitting to being homesick and therefore appearing mentally weak.
If we have to start using the players outside of the first XI or XIII/XIV then we are struggling anyway, in my view, and so it is largely immaterial whether it was Johnson/Walcott or SWP/Lennon, etc.
I’m just a bit disappointed we aren’t taking 5 strikers; it only takes a couple of injuries and we are goosed.

He was rubbish in both friendlys but hes very versatile i.e he can play upfront so he could have gone as a right winger or a striker if we had any injuries. Im suprised SWP got the vote, think hes only got that from previous England games hasnt produced anything for City for ages. Hense Johnson playing instead of him. Glad Joe Coles in the squad he can really make a difference. Still dont know what hes going to do central midd, Lampard, Gerrard, Barry, Carrick and Milner all similar type of players obviously Carrick and Barry sit back abit.
1 June 2010 at 8:44 pm #35319Would have taken Dawson over Carragher, not sure I would have taken Heskey…..and Upson WTF is that about??

I’ve heard so many people slating the decision to omit Darren Bent, and saying that Heskey should have been left out.
Have they not seen what Heskey brings to a team? Admittedly he’s fallen down the pecking order at Villa but I certainly rate him higher than Agbonlahor (the only thing he has going for him is his pace). The way Heskey holds up the ball for the other strikers is something that you can’t afford not to have at international level.
So what if Bent scored 24 goals this season, I doubt many of them were anything more than a simple tap-in from somebody else’s effort. He’s not the kind of player you need up front playing with Rooney.
Heskey will also come deep to defend if necessary, and he used to do that a lot in his last season for us.
The only decision I have a slight issue with is SWP for Johnson – Johnson has replaced SWP at club level, and I’ve never rated him very highly. Perhaps if he didn’t ruin his career by moving to Chelsea we would have a different story, but he’s never been as good as he was in his first spell at City. It also means we have no natural left footed wingers.

Capello might know more than the rest of us but it’s still OK to disagree with or debate his decisions. In particular, his decision to take SWP over Johnson, which I, (along with quite a few others I would summise) can’t get my head round.

I know, like many others im suprised SWP was chosen over Adam Johnson considering the latter took SWP’s place in the City team only 2 months ago.
I reckon his thinking will be that Gerrard is first choice on the left, based off his selections in previous internationals and J Cole will be backup. Whilst Lennon, SWP will compete for the right with Milner able to fill in on either wing aswell. Therefore AJ would have only been 3rd choice really and wasn’t really needed for that reason. Perhaps :D
1 June 2010 at 10:42 pm #35336Aye, it also means that he’ll probably play two up front so my World Cup 11 (with Gerrard in the ‘hole’) that I posted on another thread is done for.

I hope he plays Heskey personally, but ive not a clue what he’ll do.
1 June 2010 at 11:34 pm #35342Unless we get injuries to the first XI none of the ones you are debating will get a sniff anyway.
Let’s hope they don’t. With the first XI, and a following wind, we have a chance of going a long way. Without them, we’ll be home before July starts :)
2 June 2010 at 2:54 am #35350SWP is a more all round player and has more experience than AJ..Also I think he may be a better player anyway..think SWP has a lot to offer which is why I think his inclusion is the correct choice :)
