24 April 2010 at 11:20 pm #30599forgeet mention afew boos off at the end and quite a few walking off on 70 minutes
Did you go or just listen on the radio?
24 April 2010 at 11:29 pm #30600Pembertonian….the WRLFC “making up attendances dept” has been up and running for a number of years now…..sadly the mighty Tics have been using them recently as well.
If you don’t believe me about their gates, didn’t they once declare a Super League record of 24,000+ when there were empty seat AOTS?

You seem to know plenty about them. You tell me.

 Your grasp of English is astounding flower.
Did I what? There are two options there.25 April 2010 at 3:47 am #30612Pembertonian….the WRLFC “making up attendances dept” has been up and running for a number of years now…..sadly the mighty Tics have been using them recently as well.If you don’t believe me about their gates, didn’t they once declare a Super League record of 24,000+ when there were empty seat AOTS?
As the South and North stands are unreserved a certain number of seats have to be left empty. The capacity allowed was therefore reached that year when there were something like 24400 on (summat like that). They did give a crowd of 25004 one year though which was technically impossible because of the above.
Don’t ST holders get counted anyway even if they don’t show? I wouldn’t worry.
Oh and to the OP. We’d already lost to Bradford earlier in the season. Still, I’ll take 10 wins from 12.
25 April 2010 at 3:16 pm #30618Good crowd though, it’s amazing what can be achieved when you give away 5k+ tickets.I know. The crowd against Arsenal is living proof that Wiganers love a freebie.
25 April 2010 at 6:43 pm #30633They sure do, but Latics don’t dress these things up as something they aren’t, which you could argue we should!
It also helps when the rugby play so few home games, meaning half a dozen or so of these promotions can have a dramatic effect on the average crowd.
It’s all smoke and mirrors.

Or that the rugby suffers because rugby supporters don’t travel in numbers. Less away fans lowers your average attendance.

Or that rugby is a lot cheaper, £1 a game for kid’s season tickets
Or that they count people as being in attendance, whether they turn up or not. And loads probably don’t seeing as they are freebie or dirt cheap tickets anyway
The next step, if it hasn’t been done already will probably be dumping several thousands of tickets in the bottom of the Leeds & Liverpool canal and counting them in as well?
Oh and as for away fans – only 60% of fans at rugby games are actually from the “home” town, the remainder are bussed in from every pit village in the North of England enticed by cheap ticket deals. Deduct that lot and youre probably left with under 10k Wiganers

Didn’t think so.25 April 2010 at 10:25 pm #30686Latics fans know we get similar home support to the rugby, it’s the rugby followers who refuse to acknowledge this.
They’d have you believe there are a couple of thousand genuine Latics fans, while they can draw 20k with a little success, it’s a tale of delusion.
Without major promotions their average attendances would be down to 12k-13k. PS, don’t ever call these freebies, that would make rugby followers seem rather silly after slagging Latics off for similar initiatives in recent seasons.
They also have the nerve to still call Latics fans thugs and what not despite the trail of hooliganism and disrespect they’ve left behind them this season.
These arguments are tiresome and circular, but they will continue until the rugby section acknowledges Latics achievements. Of course this will never happen, therefore you will continue to see a great many rugby fans wishing Latics go out of business.
You want a couple of examples-
‘Cockney liar?
What’s the differnce between a wigan rl fan and a latics Mon?
Class. They have none. Bereft of cultural resonance in the town’‘Idiots and *not that word please* the lot of em……unfortunately we have to wait for another year for the D1cks to get back in their rightful place!’
Quite ironic considering the thread these comments were posted on.
26 April 2010 at 1:28 am #30746Did you know that Latics have never won a league game on St George’s Day in the 30 or so years we’ve been in the football league?
