Is it right that a Statue unveiling is happening on Dave Whelan’s 80th Birthday? Is the rumour also right he is naming the Ground the ‘Wigan Athletic Stadium’ as well?

That would be a perfect name for the Stadium but DW Stadium is a free advert for the business that could cost Mr Whelan a fortune. Wouldn’t make sense for him but yes a perfect name choice.

They might change it The Wigan Stadium but can’t see them adding the Athletic.

I noticed some work going on outside main reception on Saturday but didn’t think much of it.

I can see a certain mr sharp doing just that renaming stadium wigan athletic stadium after all why not they own it
Be great to hear on sky sports welcome to the wigan athletic stadium for todays soup league match wigan wurriors v warrington

The statue is courtesy of Wigan Athletic FC. Would be nice if this could be reciprocated in the town centre by Wigan Council.
