It’s the 27th February 1963 and Alf Ramsey picked his first England side, unfortunately it was soundly beaten 5-2 by France in Paris in the European Nations Cup First Round Second Leg. The First Leg had been drawn 1-1 in Sheffield the previous December. Ramsey’s team was Springett (Sheffield Wednesday), Armfield (Blackpool), Henry (Tottenham Hotspur), Mooore (West Ham United), Labone (Everton), Flowers (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Connelly (Burnley), Tambling (Chelsea), Smith (Tottenham Hotspur), Greaves (Tottenham Hotspur) and Charlton (Manchester United). Smith and Tambling scored for England while Wisnieski(2), Cossau(2) and Douis scored for France. In fairness few, if any, of the England players were match-fit due to the Arctic conditions which had been prevalent in Britain for two months.
I say Arctic conditions which had been prevalent in Britain for two months..
