Has anybody seen the sort of prices that are being OFFERED for watching the World Cup next year. Yet another sure fire message that this is becoming a rich mans spectator sport.
From what I’ve seen, you’ll not get much change out of £3,000 for a week over there and that’s without SPENDS
13 October 2009 at 2:25 am #10539rubbish, where do you get that from. £3000 for a week
try camping.muppet.
13 October 2009 at 4:46 pm #10564It is £3k and upwards. Every airline and hotel has cashed in on it.
If you want to go camping in South Africa, crack on with it son. I’d wager a small fortune on you having everything you own robbed within 24 hours of getting there.
13 October 2009 at 5:30 pm #10566Also – it’s the rainy season isn’t it????
13 October 2009 at 9:20 pm #1057613 October 2009 at 11:53 pm #10587Will it be like this ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZQ1PxNzhlI14 October 2009 at 4:23 pm #10602if you can get it for 3k then let me know where from, the flights alone will cost that, the hotels have up’d their rates by over 400% and have been booked out for the past 3 months. (irrespective of if England getting through or not), the best you can hope for is to be put on a reserve list (after paying a no refundable deposit od course). As for camping…. good luck to ya

Do you ever get that feeling you shouldn’t have opened your gob, or at least done a bit of research first.

i went camping for a week whilst over there & got nowt robbed
“Also – it’s the rainy season isn’t it????”
I aint sure on that one – I think there rainy season is in their summer (our winter). Even though its scorching you tend to find when England cricket tour there (December & January) that alot of days get rained off.
I went in July/August, it rained once & the temp was in the late 60’s early 70’s (which they thought was cold)14 October 2009 at 8:31 pm #10612i went camping for a week whilst over there & got nowt robbedPitching a tent on the bowling green of the Joburg Hilton doesn’t count, you know. :)
14 October 2009 at 8:51 pm #10613Maybe so, but the opportunist tent robbers weren’t waiting in anticipation for you and thousands of your mates to turn up, knowing exactly where you’d be staying, your exact date of arrival, and the exact times when you’d be away from your tent at a football match.

I see your point but it was a big campsite out on the east coast, full & over the big bank holiday weekend over there so plenty of pickings for anyone who was opportunist enough
Besides which if you go to an official, legit campsite over there they are liable to have blokes with big guns on the entrance & regular patrols by blokes with big guns. Not sure I’d be tempted to half inch the contents of someone’s tent when faced with them!!

The TV and a few ‘old Speckled hen’s’ Will do me fine :D

You do have a point and I have exaggerated slightly, but there will be an awful lot of crime, and the tent dwellers will be the worst hit.
I’ve got a mate who is ex-South African Special Forces and who is employed over here in security, but he’s going over for the World Cup. He said most of the lads who work for him fully expect to kill someone while they are over there (most are also ex-South African military). Frightening stuff. How FIFA must be regretting taking the ‘gloabl game’ to South Africa.
