Griff, get either a metre ruler or a tape measure and place it in front of yourself and then make your own mind up as to whether or not you think it plausible to leap that high from a standing start ! Even if he means by bringing his knees up to his chest, I still find it a little far fetched ! If on the other hand he means one metre in length then that is well doable in fact one metre in length is very easy to do. His use of the word bounce insinuates height to me. Barnes Wallis would no doubt beg to differ ! :)

I didn’t ask whether it was feasible, I simply asked why he would make it up.
Perhaps the fact that you think it is so difficult is precisely the reason why the author finds it noteworthy?

Surely he could have thought of something better than that, though?

Not overweight at all but thank you you for falling into my trap ! A one metre standing jump lifting your knees to your chest is indeed not that hard to achieve and as I already mentioned the lengthways one metre standing jump is also well easy so I am to presume he means a standing vertical jump with no leg bend which is utter bollocks ! Garswood, your vid clip is a somersault and not a one metre standing vertical jump !

Guinness World Record Standing Vertical Jump (so that defines “standing vertical jump”

I’m confident that John Burridge didn’t stand there with a tape measure, and have Al Habsi perform a standing jump in accordance with World Standing Jump Association rules.
He more than likely saw him jump for a ball, quite possibly raising his legs, and thought ‘Fook me, he must have jumped at least a metre then – because it looked really high.’
On second thoughts, maybe he did jump a metre and maybe it was measured by an International Standing Jump Umpire. It doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things does it?
