QPR & Blackburn ?
Have they got a tougher run in than us ?
I think we will need 8 points from the final four games !
8 April 2012 at 5:50 pm #84667Be lucky to get 1 point if we don’t start getting some fair refereeing .93 minutes of hard graft ruined by the cock with the flag.We are capable of getting a result wednesday if we use this injustice as a catalyst to show the powers that be that they cannot crush our spirit…….and by the way we will beat them 2-0…..
8 April 2012 at 6:11 pm #84668Phil Dowd is the ref so be prepared to be upset again boys
8 April 2012 at 6:44 pm #84669QPR will go down – they have a horrendous run-in, and are lacking key players due to self-implosion (Cisse – what a buy eh!).
Blackburn or Wigan will take the 3rd spot, and it will probably come down to the game at Ewood – if its half as good as the West Ham game last season, then the neutrals will be in for a treat.
As for decisions, it is common knowledge that the big clubs get the favourable calls, but they also get them against all the other lesser clubs – its not just Wigan that are discriminated against. Almost every week, we hear of an injustice against one of Bolton, Blackburn, Villa, QPR, WBA, Fulham, Stoke, Swansea, Norwich, Everton, Sunderland, Wolves and even these days Liverpool(!), but very rarely at the expense of the Mancs, Chelsea, Arsenal & Spurs.
If you do go down (and I hope you dont), its not down to yesterday’s shocking decisions – its more down to the poor defending and lack of creativity over the period September to March. You cant keep on only playing well for 6 weeks each season and expect to stay up.
8 April 2012 at 6:50 pm #84671QPR, Wolves and Bowtun (i hope)
8 April 2012 at 8:39 pm #84678You cant keep on only playing well for 6 weeks each season and expect to stay up.Correct. Yet in rugby league you can do that and finish up winning the title

Well said goodpost
9 April 2012 at 1:34 pm #84721Thanks for your attempt to turn your desperate plight into an anti-rugby thread.
I take it you are not a fan of the football league playoffs, where 3 good games (where there is no advantage for final league position) can get you in the Premier League from 6th place.

Sorry for going completely off topic but I am going to take the bate.

Well, naturally most Wigan Athletic fans have come to have a dislike of the play offs, but that is just born out of bitter experience. In theory though, the idea of having four teams compete for promotion brings hope to teams that would otherwise be playing for nothing. However, the way that Super League uses this system whereby a mid-table team can go on to effectively win the league, thus being declared as the best team in the league, despite finishing below other teams throughout the course of the season, is somewhat bizzare. Your argument about the play offs in football is not a suitable comparison because at no point does anybody claim the winner of the play offs were the best of the four teams throughout the course of the season. In fact, they often aren’t.

Not really, but would love it if my team finished bottom of the league but still didn’t get relegated. B)

Not really fat boy. If you’d ever read anything I write you’d know I consider out current plight to be far from desperate and as a rugby league fan too, I am hardly likely to start an anti-rugby league thread.
However, if we are taking about an anti- rugby league FAN thread, then I’m your man

Fat Man, please tell me where I compared sports in my original post:

Or were you having a pop at Griff for doing exactly what you accuse me of?

My parochial friend, you’re missing the point entirely.
The football league play-offs do not decide who is champion, or even runner up; that is done fairly, and goes to whoever finishes top of the table and in second place.
The play offs are for a ‘bonus’ promotion place, and they add a bit of interest and excitement at the end of the season – giving the following pack of teams something to play for.
Unfortunately, Rugby League determine their whole season by this play-off method, whereby a team can have a mediocre year and lose half their games, only to win three matches and then be crowned UK champions – that is what is ridiculous about the Super League play-offs.
