As 34 stated, it’s when people get all pedantic over the language use and punctuality blah blah blah it gets annoying.

Punctuality??? Quite ironic that you apologised for your delayed reply yet had a go at people who criticise your punctuality. ;)

I could write a very neutral article every week that expressed no opinion at all and sparked no debate. But that would be rather pointless in my view, so I have no choice but to provide ammunition.

Very few read the one you write now, I reckon. Don’t go writing two.

And my opinion on the ref last night? He made mistakes for both team, the disallowed goal, the corner, Figgy’s handball, not sending off Evens, possibly Welbeck’s penalty claim etc. But he was poor for both teams, and after having so many decisions go against us over teh years, especially against big clubs, isn’t it only fair we got away with a couple last night.

Nobody asked for your opinion as far as I’m aware.

Seriously, keep on writing. I don’t particularly care for much of what you say or how you write it but that’s just my personal opinion and you at least generate some discussion. Suppose I should put my money where my mouth is and write some alternative views but frankly, it’s much easier to just snipe at what you write. ;)

Well clearly, I was being hypothetical, and in any case, I was referring to a neutral article replacing my current one so your pedantic comments are lacking in relevance there. ;)

Well nobody really asked for your opinion on my article actually, so you’re contradicting yourself there. This thread had got onto the topic of the referee and I offered my opinion as this is a discusiion anyone can join in with, I imagine anyway. Do I have your permission to make these comments? Probably not, but guess what, I don’t need it either!

And finally, the fact that you comment on what I write and how I write indicates that actually, you do care about it, otherwise you wouldn’t respond in the first place. Now that, is irony. ;)

Glad to hear it. Your conversion to the lightside appears complete.

For me it’s impossible to leave early. For years I went as a kid with my dad. Never made kick off for about five years and always left 5 mins before the end, “to beat the traffic”. It was Springfield Park in the early eighties FFS! To make it even worse the car had no radio, so it was home and leg it to the shop for the football pink to get any other scores.

JohnDoe – That’s the kind of comment I encourage, an honest comment stating your opinion without any evidence of trying to spark a ‘cyber-spat’. Yes, maybe it was harsh to group Roberts with Chimbonda, but those comments, like many I write, were light-hearted. But let’s be frank, he’s not achieved that much sicne he left the JJB, has he?

You be frank if you want, I’ll stay as John.

As for what he’s achieved, I’d say initially a contract that he felt he deserved, then, without looking back through all our players stats, I’d guess he’s scored more premier league goals since he left than anyone we’ve got in the squad, then a blinding start at reading for a player his age, oh, and an MBE. I’d be quite happy with that.

I was just a bit dismayed that you would tar him with the chimbonda brush, after all he did for our club, and at the same time leave your namesake out of your little hitlist, even though he was a bit of a tool when leaving the club, and has done close to NOTHING since. Just an observation Mr Duke, carry on son.

FAO Tyldesley, your a ref marrer so maybe you can iron summat out for me,I have always believed that handball had to be deemed deliberate for it to be an offence. It always seems to me that this is no longer the case these days and that any contact with the hand is generally treated as an infringement. What is the refs directive on this matter? and why do we rarely see indirect free kicks anymore? Cheers for any info.
