There are other variables of course, not just the ballpark price.
He is on Blackburn’s payroll – can they afford to keep him?
Did they pay their £8.5 million upfront, or in instalments so they still owe a fair proportion?
Are we offering cash up front?
It may not be quite as simple as portrayed.
You also have to remember that DW didn’t make his fortune paying over the odds. His starting point is 6 – could go up.
Whelan wouldn’t waste his time if there was no chance, must be more to it, I’m sure I read that Blackburn haven’t finished paying for him & they need funds .
