£30 is daft but the powers that be don’t seem to see it, Whelan’s the millionaire though, I’m not.
24 February 2010 at 11:34 am #24131He will be cashing in while he can. Imagine the stick Whelan will get next year when he keeps the prices the same, especially if we go down !
25 February 2010 at 6:03 pm #24276For a club our size £30 a game is too high, even if it is just for 1 or 2 games. However I was responding to the question about the crowd if it was free against Liverpool, just making the general point that in my opinion, the support we get from the people of this town (and the support the egg chasers get), is appalling in my view. I know we’re not the biggest town, but surely for 2 top flight clubs, we should be able to attract a combined gate of close to at least 34-35K regularly, especially with the ST prices both offer. In fairness though, it isnt just Wigan that doesn’t bother, apparently last week v Fulham, Bolton were offering lad and dad tickets for £12…empty seats everywhere
i did start a thread about the ticket prices for the liverpool game but it somehow seems to have dissapeared, anyone know why??
25 February 2010 at 6:34 pm #24278When the 3 for £30 offer was on the Fulham game attracted 16k home fans, this on a Sunday afternoon, played at the same time as the live TV game between Utd and Chelsea.
Replicate that against Liverpool and there would be at least 21k on.
At £30 a ticket many pay on the day fans aren’t even going to consider going, as for families, yeah I’m sure they’ll happily pay anything upto £100 for a Latics game, not.
25 February 2010 at 11:43 pm #24294‘Conroy wrote:Latics average around the same number of HOME fans as Wigan.’
‘With cheaper tickets, a better atmosphere because of the away fans, and also the fact that they are over achieving as a club, while we have been under achieving for quite some time.’
I didn’t realise the rugby were paying upto £30 per game!
I also like how they spin underachievement, they’ve been in many semi-finals over the years, anyone would think they’ve missed out on the play-offs for a decade.

I think Conroy is showing which side his bread is buttered on there. Latics last season averaged 18000, including an average of around 3500 away fans = 14500 home fans – already higher than the rugby’s total average of 14000 but there must be on average around 1500 away fans when you think Saints bring 8000, Leeds, Bradford, Warrington, Hull Hull KR etc all bring between 1-2000 each, Wakefield, Castleford, Salford, Hudds etc bring 500 then you are looking at around 20k away fans throughout the season or 1500 per game which leaves 12500 home fans, so they are a good 2000 off and I’ve hardly exaggerated there.
The truth is much lower as they count every ticket sold whether they turn up or not and at £26 for kids season tickets a lot don’t. Plus the 5000 tickets they gave to Heinz bumped the average up by nearly 400.
I also like how they spin underachievement, they’ve been in many semi-finals over the years, anyone would think they’ve missed out on the play-offs for a decade.Or fighting relegation for 5 years. Sorry doesnt happen in the farce of a non competition that is RL does it

Well it did once then they changed the rules when wiggin were ont verge
26 February 2010 at 1:55 am #24307They can get tickets for £30 for 6 games and they’re still moaning…..if it cost them as much as it costs us to watch all our games (h & a), they’d get about 3,000 on.
26 February 2010 at 2:00 pm #24332The Egg, Sorry I owe you an apology as I’ve just read that thread on RL fans and you were sticking up for Latics. You didn’t go far enough though and should have told the truth that Latics have 2000 more home fans than they do ( borrow my stats above ) AND more of them actually come from Wigan – 80% v 60%
A couple of other things I don’t get while I was on there, the rugby men have taken to calling us ‘skemeds’ implying our fans are all from Skem yet there is a lad on their called Scouse Pie who is ( according to his avatar ) “plotting the demise of Latics so that they can have the stadium all to themselves”. If you check them out, hardly anyone is from Wigan.
Oh and why is it when they give away free tickets or offer deals they all applaud their club and say “great idea”. Yet when we do it they take the piss out of us for it and say we’ve no fans and only get people watching us cos of thousands of freebies
Hypocrites the lot of them
But to return to topic, I don’t know which games they can use but they should definitely do a 3 for £30 or a 2 for £20 before the season ends if Latics want to boost crowds
