Beaten by the better footballing side, they weren’t world beaters but good enough to make us play a game of containment.
We never looked threatening, both Hungbo and Murray playing the role of a defender rarely getting forward but my biggest disappointment was Saydee. He’s just had a 3 match rest so you’d be thinking he’d be chomping at the bit but he was awful.
At least Mullin put himself about but Saydee hardly moved. We were 5 at the back for most of the game bar 10 minutes in the second half plus 1 shot on goal and 27% possession doesn’t bode well.
The answer ? there is none with that current squad there’s a lack of quality to even consider a top 6.
I’ll be happy with a mid table
27 September 2025 at 7:02 pm #206198My sentiments…..thought Saydee was poor. This wing back shite in league 1 will stuff us. Wycombe 2nd 11 embarrassed us……their 1st 11 got dicked today so they not top draw. Bolton smashed us then lose at Northampton so who thinks they’re destined for promotion..?.not me.Both those teams comfortably spanked us. Cardiff never had to get out of 1st gear…..better in every department. Murray, Saydee non existent as attacking threat.Aimson a liability. Trevitt,Wright lightweight Costelloe never gets on the end of a ball into the box as he can’t work himself in front of the defender, always behind. That middle hasn’t got a tackle in it. We are jelly in the middle..and those players who looked so promising early doors are either just playing in a formation that doesn’t work or not as good as we thought. Either way apart from Mullen we look clueless going forward. Worrying times…..rumours he’s lost the dressing room……bollocks……yes he’s tactically coming off 2nd best but a lot of our squad need to wake up and grow a pair …….
27 September 2025 at 8:59 pm #206202Lowes interview is basically throwing the gauntlet down and calling the players out. This can go one of two ways, 9am in on a Sunday? he won’t make many friends doing that.
Saydee,
His job was to get hold of the ball, shield it, pass, move. If the receiver of his ball fails it doesn’t matter Saydee’s done his part,
But
Saydee didn’t hold anything up. I’m surprised his shorts stayed up. From that first game he’s gone downhill faster than Parbold Hill in a Ferrari.
Don’t get confused, Hungbo and Murray are 100000% not wing backs wingers yes, wingbacks most definitely not.
Saying that I thought Hungbo did brilliant defensively considering the amount of pressure he was under which in turn stopped us going forward both Murray and Hungbo were too busy defending for most of the game
But at the end of the day,
We’re not good enough, we don’t have that quality were 2 years off due to 2 managers not been backed.
28 September 2025 at 7:12 am #206203I thought Cardiff are the best team I have seen so far.
They looked a cut above in my opinion and sadly sometimes you have to accept being outclassed and I’m afraid that’s what happened.Yes the team could have done better but when the opposing team are simply too good it is probably the most deflating thing as a footballer.
We started brightly but each attack was comfortably cleared and they looked like they were coasting and could easily have added more goals but did t need to step up any gears.
You can go on about formations etc but quite simply they were better and I doubt they will play any better team this season
The reaction to defeat is more concerning , do players normally come in on Sunday mornings at 9am ?In last Sunday and I’m certain it was said post match yesterday they are in this Morning at 9am.
That’s punishment for a defeat which happens especially in league 1 and which was always going to happen with a very very good side , they were a better team no use beating up about it , just move on and use the full week to try and get something at Plymouth next Saturday.
28 September 2025 at 7:23 am #206204I personally don’t think the players are playing for him and Lowes tactics don’t help.
3 at the back, 2 wingers trying to defend and a disorganised midfield isn’t helping. Cardiff were for large parts of the game playing 2-4-4 or 3-3-4.
They made sure they high pressed and kept Hungbo and Murray busy defending which meant we were trapped and pinned down for large parts of the game.
So what did we do ? well we rolled the ball out to Kerr Fox Aimson and tried to play it out from the back or kick long and lose it.
We play with 2 forwards and Saydee’s job is to get the ball, hold it up, draw players in and give the likes of Hungbo or Murray a chance to get up and support Mullin or a Midfielder.
Ball goes to Saydee
He loses it time after time
Hungbo and Murray are then too scared to go forward incase their caught out . So for me the lack of someone been able to grab the ball and hold or lay it up the top end was our issue, Saydee and Costelloe and Mullin didn’t make it stick
If that ball just keeps going up top then keeps coming back your basically fecked.
Take nothing away from Cardiff they have that bit of quality we lack. Quick players and a solid defence they’ll definitely be in the shake up for sure.
As previously pointed out about Bolton, they went through us so easy using width and we couldn’t deal with it then they go and get tonked 2-0 by an average Northampton side, that’s worrying form on our part.
Then lets look at our squad as a whole, and look at the bench, who do you bring on that could kick start us ? that spark?,
No one
Our squads lacking and Lowes ripping his grey out because there’s certain players that are clearly not trying hard enough and some that completely ignore his pre match tactics and plan.
For me with the players we’ve got we cannot play Lowes system, better players yes, current squad most definitely not.
3 at the back and 2 make shift wing backs? No no no
2 up front ?
No no no especially when the forwards are playing so poor at holding it up and bringing other players into any attack.
It has to be 4-5-1 for me, 4 defenders, period, let’s first of all get control of the defence let’s first defend, and stop conceding it has to be our priority.
4 defenders
2 wingers
3midfieldets
Mullin up top
M.Smith in more of an attacking mid roll orchestrating play
If we had 3 better centre half’s 2 natural wing backs yeah go 3 at the back but yesterday we were 5 at the back asking to attacking wingers to play left and right back, ludicrous.
It’s horses four courses and our first and formost job is to stop leaking goals stop losing.
We’ve now won 2 in 10 league & cup and conceded 10 in our last 5 winning 1. First job stop the rot. If this means 3 x 0-0’s then so be it. We need to be harder to break down and rely on the counter with wingers outside more forward.
Anyway, I’d like to be a fly on the wall when a player v coaching staff have it out Sunday and the players can hopefully get Lowe to consider changing things up system tactically because currently there not working

30 September 2025 at 10:30 pm #206220Mmmmmm !!!…Dicked by Horwich..next game they beaten at Northampton……Same with Wycombe reserves done at Wimbledon……Now super ,class above us,best in league Cardiff who cruised past us now beaten at home by bottom of league Burton. Starting to think we really aren’t as good as that Doncaster win had me/ us thinking. Or other managers set their teams up tactically more astute…..and with a belief that no one is unbeatable.!!!
30 September 2025 at 11:34 pm #206221It’s all about the depth of the squad, and ours is a kiddies paddling depth. 2 up front would work but 2 out the 3 forwards are lacking so Lowe needs to revert to one up top.
Is it just me been a bellend but is M.Smith a creative midfielder and not a holding midfield ??.
This is the 2nd manager who’s stuck him in front of the defence. Did Maloney leave Martinez’s handbook on the side for Lowe?.
