Trevor Sinclair replaced Danny Murphy a couple of days before WC2002 started because of Murphy breaking his foot in training a few days before the first game.

Id imagine Paul Robinson is the 1st replacement for the keepers. The lads who didnt make the 23man squad would be 2nd in line for the outfield players.
Then why not annonce the 23 man squad the day before our first game?Because FIFA want to have squad numbers and such like sorted so that this Sunday’s papers can be full of ridiculous pull-outs and all the match programmes and souveniers etc, can be produced.

1 i can think of is for the players sake. Theres 7players from the original squad not going so instead of letting them wait until 1 day before the world cup starts they give them a week in advance. All of the 32 countries have only sent there 23 man squad to South Africa, except South Africa,.
