Is it too late to bring in a replacement seeing as reports are coming out that Ferdinand is injured?
4 June 2010 at 4:22 pm #35727No, we have a few players in reserve so we can call one of them in.
Gary Cahill ?
Wes Brown ?
Michael Dawson ?4 June 2010 at 4:26 pm #35730Anonymous
Dawsons on stand-by.
4 June 2010 at 4:29 pm #35731You can bring in a replacement up to 24 hours before your first game.
Trevor Sinclair replaced Danny Murphy a couple of days before WC2002 started because of Murphy breaking his foot in training a few days before the first game.
4 June 2010 at 4:32 pm #35733From Auntie Beeb:-
Should a player be ruled out of the World Cup before it begins, a replacement can be drafted into the 23-man squad as happened in 2002 when England midfielder Danny Murphy broke a bone in his foot and Trevor Sinclair was called up.
However, if a player is injured during the course of the tournament, then a replacement cannot be brought into the squad

There’s no such thing as a reserve. You could call up whoever you like.

4 June 2010 at 4:48 pm #35746Then why not annonce the 23 man squad the day before our first game?

Id imagine Paul Robinson is the 1st replacement for the keepers. The lads who didnt make the 23man squad would be 2nd in line for the outfield players.
4 June 2010 at 4:52 pm #35750Then why not annonce the 23 man squad the day before our first game?Because FIFA want to have squad numbers and such like sorted so that this Sunday’s papers can be full of ridiculous pull-outs and all the match programmes and souveniers etc, can be produced.

Then why not annonce the 23 man squad the day before our first game?Theres probably a few reasons.
1 i can think of is for the players sake. Theres 7players from the original squad not going so instead of letting them wait until 1 day before the world cup starts they give them a week in advance. So the 23men can start to gel together and bond etc. Also FIFA says so….4 June 2010 at 4:53 pm #35752Then why not annonce the 23 man squad the day before our first game?
