quality10 September 2012 at 3:30 pm #92843LOTP………and the home crowd was about 14000. Hardly something to shout from the rooftops about.
Actually, considering we were averaging somewhere in the region of 1,800 less than a generation ago, I think we have a lot to shout about.
Not that you can compare, but for interest in 1994/5 WRLFC average was 16,000ish winning the top flight and was World Club Champions. Whilst Wigan Athletic managed an average of 1,841 in theold division 3.
We see all the lazy journo’s dragging out that we have crap support, but when you dig just a little under the surface a different reality appears. There is no other club in the World that has had the increase in crowds that Wigan Athletic have had over a decade (not just in Football but any sport).
WE have always known that football was the number one supported sport in Wigan, there are thousands of Liverpool, Manchester United, Everton, Man City etc fans in Wigan and we knew this because the pubs used to be packed with them until Latics started competing with them. These same people are now seeing their sons and duaghters follow their home town team, and over the years to come, their children will follow them.
Regarding the Chelsea crowd, in 1985 we pulled this team in the FA Cup and with quite a large contingent from the South got just over 9,000…. we have come a long way, accept and move on.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

well they have sold circa 4k so far for the play off……………..packing them in i see?????
iv’e heard some wurriers are complaining about the play off ticket prices? £19, yes that’s correct £19! a quick message to them, your town’s premier league wendyball team are forking out £45 an adult this saturday (x2 challenge cup final tickets can be bought for that price) an under 5’s ticket is £17 (book over phone and it’s £19)
so an under 5’s is getting charged the same as a wurrier adult play off ticket!!!!!!!!!!!!!
put’s it into perspective doesn’t it eh boy’s. no excuses, 20k please on friday, being a rugger town and all that
12 September 2012 at 5:12 am #92950The shirt is based on the tshirt worn by Jack in the pictures of him on the website for their charity which was setup to try and raise awareness as well as raise money to research the disease which will see him die before he’s 18/20.
13 September 2012 at 12:24 am #92995Would have been an even better gesture if The Wigan Club had given more than £10 of the £30/£40 cost of the shirts to charity.
Then again i suppose there has gotta be something in it for the club.

They’ve managed to raise over £7000 from shirt sales alone.
13 September 2012 at 10:59 pm #93033Who ? The charity or Wigan Warriors ?
14 September 2012 at 9:25 am #93051Who ? The charity or Wigan Warriors ?Wigan. They sold out of the original 600 and then released a few hundred more adult sizes.
18 September 2012 at 5:24 am #93337Isn’t just rugby league that is getting behind this. People from TV shows like Coronation Street and Emmerdale are involved, it was seen in the Olympics AND Paralympics and today they’ve posted a picture of Sugar Ray Leonard doing the now famous JJ salute.
Even Latics have got involved.
