Thugby league is seriously dead in the water……less than 10000 on Friday…..taking into account 50% of the chubsters are allocated 2 seats each then in reality probably more like 6500!!!….Yes we had bring a friend but still a great attendance……remember we are in the 3rd tier of our sport…….not far from the 4th………they at the top of theirs…….Nipped in pub Fri to pay my subs and there they were a dozen so called Warriors supporters TV watching.Boy did I let rip……their reasons for not attending!!!….”Never wanted to move into that shit ground “……Feeble,Bulls######g no.marks. Saturdays attendance shows what the championship would provide if we had an owner with a modicum of ambition. Only the uneducated outsiders think this is a rugby town……..we know better!!!
16 March 2026 at 3:58 pm #207065I concur with all you say , and would be thrilled to see the whole ‘ circus ‘ disappear .. BUT , it would mean that we would be solely responsible for the Stadium’s maintenance .. where would that leave us .. ???
16 March 2026 at 4:37 pm #207066Agree……both clubs sadly down the back of sofa coppering up with an owner worth in excess 2 Billion……meanwhile Chelsea like City will eventually get away with downright cheating…..their’s over 7 years..knew exactly what they were doing…..getting caught was their real cock up…get a fine which is a cop out and a 1 window transfer ban…F###### suspended. Look what we got !!!…..Boy it will be interesting to see if the Premier leagues biggest frauds get the whacking they deserve if found guilty……how’s about relegation to league 2 like Rangers got……..mmmm…..dreaming again.
16 March 2026 at 4:38 pm #207067The game died years and years ago when RU went professional and overnight restricted the supply of top players flowing into RL previously.
The top players went the other way and the rest is history.
Rule changes and summer rugby are also factors and also leisure pursuits have changed massively since their 1980s and 90s zenith when wet winter sundays in Wigan and pubs closing at 2 meant many trudged to the Rugby to watch Gregory, Edwards and Hanley ( their like would no doubt be in RU today) and the ‘Rugby town ‘ term was pushed in the media by super salesman Maurice Lindsay.
Almost 17,000 on saturday for a team at the butt end of the 3rd division , free tickets or not the argument about the dominant code was killed for good on saturday afternoon !
Huge potential at Latics if someone comes in with ambition and the realisation that our beloved Little Latics have aquired some celebrity status with its colourful history over the past 25 years.

No we wouldn’t, we no longer own it Danson does. Now if he tried to sell it who would buy it?.
Rugby the other year cleaned up trophy wise and still came out around £5-£6million in debt for the season. The sports dead in the water.
If and when Danson sells the football there would be potential buyers now we’re on a more financial even keel and room for improvement but the rugby ?.
What else can they win or do to improve their financial situation??. It doesn’t have the crowd or interest beyond Lancashire and Yorkshire.
With the football there’s always room and scope to improve on and off the pitch.
If Danson pulled out no one would take them on and I mean no one as there is nothing they can do to generate more revenue, nothing
I think Danson selling the football is a shot across the bow for the rugby because at the end of the day Dansons a business man regardless and losing money doesn’t sit well.
Without Danson right now I think we’d survive were as the rugby would die overnight and their fans know this
17 March 2026 at 7:01 am #207071They never built up a young fan base like Latics have successfully done
Not sure how much Latics lose a season now , but I bet it’s not 5 or 6 million .
