Not negative. Fact. After 8 years in the top flight we should have built a better set up. Whelan promised this to Bobby years ago. Now it’s predicted to be 2016. If our infrastructure isn’t better than the teams listed given the money that has flowed in and out of the club over the last decade it would surely be disappointing.

2 May 2015 at 3:20 pm #141911…and yet Latics won the LFA Youth Cup 6-1 on Saturday. Why doesn’t that typify the club ? ……. building for the future ?Clearly they are, but the future doesn’t seem to be that ambitious. The other clubs competing in this competition were:
Tranmere – non league next season
Blackpool, Rochdale, Preston, Oldham, Fleetwood – 3rd division next season
Burnley – Probably going to be relegated to Championship
Morecambe, Bury – 4th division. No Bolton, Blackburn. No big premier league clubs.
After 8 years in the top flight and 12 years in the top two divisions, is this as far as youth development has reached?
2 May 2015 at 4:03 pm #141912……..After 8 years in the top flight and 12 years in the top two divisions, is this as far as youth development has reached?I’m not sure those timescales apply, as we only really appeared to start taking this seriously when Martinez came in. Remember, Jewell had “taken us as far as he could” and hadn’t implemented the structure, and then Bruce wanted to shop in Harrods !
With regard to “is this as far as”…….. well, obviously yes …….and it appears to be going in an upward direction.
